Capstone exam and project
As you near the end of your Certificate Program, there's one final milestone before earning your certificate: the Capstone.
The Capstone is the final section of your Certificate Program and is designed to help you apply what you've learned and demonstrate your understanding of the program's key concepts.
It consists of two parts:
- Capstone Assignment (optional): A practical, self-reviewed activity that allows you to apply your knowledge to realistic HR scenarios.
- Capstone Exam (required): A multiple-choice exam that you must pass to earn your certificate.
What to expect from the Capstone
Capstone Assignment
The Capstone Assignment brings together the topics covered throughout your Certificate Program, giving you an opportunity to put your learning into practice. Depending on your program, the assignment may include:
- Practical scenarios and case studies: Apply your knowledge to realistic HR challenges and explore different approaches.
- Templates and guides: Work with practical resources that you can also use in your professional work.
- Data and technical exercises: Complete assignments using provided datasets and materials, where applicable.
The assignment is optional and does not need to be completed to earn your certificate. However, we recommend completing it to reinforce your learning and prepare for the Capstone Exam.
Capstone Exam (required)
The Capstone Exam is a multiple-choice assessment that tests your understanding of the key concepts covered throughout your Certificate Program. To pass the exam and earn your certificate, you must achieve a score of 70% or higher.
Once you've completed the exam, you'll receive your results and feedback to help you understand your performance.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to complete the Capstone Assignment?
No. The Capstone Assignment is optional. Only passing the Capstone Exam is required to earn your Certificate Program certificate.
What happens if I don't pass the exam?
You can retake the Capstone Exam as many times as needed, as long as you have access to the program. We recommend reviewing the relevant course materials and your exam feedback before trying again.
Where can I claim my certificate?
Once you've passed the Capstone Exam, you'll be able to claim your certificate. The certificate will be sent to you via e-mail, and you'll be able to find it on your My Home page.

Do I need to work with a real organization to complete the assignment?
No. The Capstone Assignment includes the information and materials needed to complete the activities, so you don't need access to a real organization's data. You can also draw on your previous work experience to connect the exercises to real-world situations.
The Capstone allows you to apply your knowledge, assess your understanding, and complete the final step toward earning your AIHR certificate.
